Small Group Themes

Unfortunately, some students experience challenging situations, along with their family. Family's move, divorce happens, someone important to them gets sick, a dad loses his job, people and pets die, someone goes away for a long time, trauma, natural disaster, and lots more.  Some children experience a lot of change which can evoke strong emotions. Just when you think children are adjusting and coping, a good chance says they may not be.  Even though children are resilient and appear to be managing just fine, most likely they are thinking how these recent changes bother them. These events may temporarily interfere with academic achievement. When I receive a referral and meet with the child, we will discuss if there is an interest in a small support group, later on. If your child is invited to join the group a letter asking permission will be sent home. Listed below are some topics of past small group needs.
